Psychosocial Support

In response to the ongoing war in Ukraine, millions of people are internally displaced with a significant concentration in near front line areas. These regions are crucial evacuation hubs due to their proximity to active war zones. The constant influx of displaced individuals places immense pressure on local structures.

There is a lack in access to psychological support. Existing structures provide limited options for psychological and social assistance, intensifying the urgent need for more professional support.

World HAND International, together with our partners, supports civilians, working staff such as of NGOs, Companies, social workers, local governments with training and therapy. Practicing professionals and students of psychology in their final year, receive Certified Training Curriculum for a specialization on Trauma.

The humanitarian crisis demands additional support structures. Vulnerable groups, such as single mothers, the elderly, and people with disabilities, require aid and are often faced with multifaceted traumas resulting from loss, occupation, and displacement.

Short- and long-term therapy programmes, mental and physical health are being offered.

The challenges faced by displaced persons are further heightened by the approaching winter, with infrastructure targeted by the aggressor. Our projects aim to address these urgent needs.

World HAND International´s Humanitarian distributions and evacuations, where possible, are accompanied by psychologists or social workers. This is more often the case when our teams or partners head out to newly deoccupied areas; as well as in selected regular activities.

Sew Far from Home- a holistic approach

Our MHPSS (Mental Helath and Psychosocial Support) project SEW FAR from Home located close to the front lines in Eastern Ukraine provides in a holistic approach psychosocial support for children and adults, individual- and group therapy sessions. We provide shelter and day care, provision of meals and other humanitarian assistance, vocational training and a Community Centre to IDPs.

The Sewing Centre within the project not only provides vocational training but also allows beneficiaries to contribute meaningfully, improving their psychosocial well-being. Products, such as beddings, created by beneficiaries are donated to civilians at the front lines and shelters, extending the impact to as many people in need as possible.
